It's alive!

Well, I've done it. After numerous google searches trying to prove my assumption either right or wrong, I think I have a safe claim to make.

To the best of my knowledge (i still might be wrong, but i can't find anyone else who's done it), i'm the only person whose managed to get Explorer Bars and IE Toolbars written and working - written ONLY in VB.net.

I'm pretty impressed at that statement.

I've written both explorer bars and IE toolbars before, both in C++ and in VB6 (hah, and they say tha'ts impossible too! But i can't claim credit for the VB6 version - i used Edanmo's base as the starting point for that. Edanmo has done some shell stuff for .net, but not explorer bars - yet. Hopefully I've beaten him to it this time *laughs*

To be fair, I did start with a working .net base - in C#. I found this on CodeProject. Over the last year or so i've made several attempts to convert this to VB.net, in the hope that i could stick with my preffered language, and make some better extensions to it and fix some of the flaws that are in it. There's just enough differences between C# and VB that doing a conversion has been nigh on impossible.

But not anymore! So watch this space, because I'll be releasing the source and some funky controls to make it work properly (i'll list the problems i have with the codeproject sample later) - and hopefully someone out there will appreciate my work :)

If you're interested in what i'm doing, and want to be kept up to date with it all, then either subscribe to my blog feed, or leave me some feedback and when i get the source 'out there' i'll make sure i contact you and let you know.

I wonder how well it does (or doesn't)

Ah, no. I've tried these converters before, and never found that they worked very well.

Last time i tried the one on this site (not converting the explorer bar stuff, but some other fairly heavy COM interop stuff, it threw an exception at me *laughs*

I find it easier in the end (and more trustworthy) to do it myself.
