G'day World - you're on the porn!

I'm sitting here listening to the latest release from the G'Day World team. Instead of a regular podcast, they've been doing a lot of 'On the Pod' casts, where the two guys randomly call people and record themselves having a chat with them.

The latest one was with Mitch Denny. I took special interest in this one - not so much because it was Mitch, but ...oh, i can't tell a lie! We live in the same damn city, and we're yet to meet up. By listening, i could put a voice to the name - which, while possibly not as good as putting a face to the name, at least I can listen to him while I lay naked in my bed I can possibly now identify him if I hear him speak.

Actually, I listen to all the on the pod sessions. Most of the people they've talked to so far I've heard of, so it's interesting hearing how people talk compared to how they write. I'm still waiting to find out if Frank Arrigo is going to let himself get crank called - now that one could be interesting indeed :)

What was wierd actually was hearing someone talking about Canberra. There's a few us .net'ers in Canberra, probably the most vocal of which (that I can think of off the top of my head, and that I know of - I don't claim to know them all :) would be Mitch, Eddie de Bear, and Darren Neimke. I've only met Eddie in person twice, and Darren is only an honourary Canberran until he finally moves his ass here from Adelaide.

Mick (I think it was Mick - I'm not great yet as differentiating his and Cam's voices yet) mentioned that Canberra is the porn capital of Australia. You know, I'd forgotten this was the case. For those of you who don't know, in Australia proper decent porn (X rated stuff) is only available in Canberra (and the Northern Territory too? I think the territories sell it but the states don't). By decent porn, what I mean is the ones where you see all the gory details. You know, things that if you don't live in Canberra you can only find online :)

A few times when I've met people from out of state, one of the first things they've wanted to do on getting here was to check out the adult shops. It always amused me, because really, I forget that they're even there. (That's what braodband is for, right guys? :)

A friend of mine used to work in an adult store here, right across the road from the nightclub that I'd usually frequent back in my drinking and party days. He was basically a bouncer like at a normal club, but his job was to make sure no one got up to any funny business while in the private booths watching the live display :) One night myself and a couple of friends, including his girlfriend, wandered across the road to visit while he was working. The first thing he did was to make sure we each got a turn in the private booth - he even paid for the minute each we got.

Now that was a night I learned a lot. Don't sit down, you don't know what you might sit on. Don't lean on anything - same reason. Don't try to make conversation with the girl on the other side of the glass - it just distracts her. When you come out, push the door open with your foot - the handle could be quite sticky. Oh, and the old fat woman behind the cash register is the other girls mother - so there's no need to get excited, you can see what she'll look like in 30 years.

You know, I'm not sure I miss those days that much. :)
