Canberra Geek Dinner...are you game?
Hey, Darren! Remember the evening at the pub after the security summit? Remember how we discussed a geek dinner in a couple of weeks?
Well…we’ve been a bit quiet on the discussion front since then. So I figure it’s time to do something about it.
Who? Any geek, Canberra based or nearby, or even make a special trip in. I’m sorry, but it’s most likely that I’ll be there.
What? A geek dinner. Sit and eat and talk. It’s preferred if you keep the talk on topic - you know, try to keep it mostly in English (no offense to any non-English speakers, but unless it’s English or derived from some sort of VB, C, or HTML variant, I want be able to do much more than nod and smile).
Where? I’m sorry, that information is classified. OK, OK, I have no idea. I really need to talk to Darren about it :) My guess is likely somewhere in the City centre.[1]
When? See the answer for 'Where'. However, I think there's a pretty good change that we won't be holding it at likely-somewhere-in-the-City-centre PM.
Why? Well, that depends. Why have a dinner, or why post about it, or just plain why?
- Why have a dinner? Fun. Networking. To finally have the chance to not feel alone in your specialness as a geek.
- Why post about it? Because I thought this would be a fun way to get it organised (it's as easy to write this as it is to email Darren directly :)
- Why? Don't get me started!
So anyway. Who's in? Got any ideas or suggestions? Roll up, roll up!
[1]: Don't know Canberra? It's a real big place. Imagine you're standing smack bang in the City Centre. Now pic a direction on the compass - it really doesn't matter which one. Now drive in that direction for 20 minutes. Guess what? You've left Canberra. so no matter where you go, it's not very far away :)
