Look out, I'm coming to talk to you!

Well, I am if you're going to Code Camp Oz this weekend.

I got an email from Frank Arrigo tonight. This is his first night home out of hospital, and what's he doing? Geeking out! A man after my own heart, that's for sure :)

So anyway, he says he can't make it to Code Camp (for obvious reasons) but wants someone to do some recordings...eh, let me quote:

i was wondering if you would be interested in helping us so something. i am looking for a dude to go around and do so audio interviews with the attendees, speakers, random wagga folks whatever. they don't need to be long interviews but captue the atnosphere. we will then take the clips and stitch them into a podcast that will go out in the next few weeks - most likely with dr pete's .net show.

Well, it's pretty obvious to me that in his surgery it seems they slipped and amputated the finger that presses the shift key, and the finger that starts the spell checker :) He must have also been partially lobotomized, since he's asking me. Me?

Eh, never being one to look a gift horse in the mouth (for very long - horse breath is stinky up close) I didn't need very much convincing. Sounds like fun, and it's an honour to be asked (or no other sucker would take the gig :)

Now, I can't say I'm known for my interview techniques. And there's a pretty good reason for that - I've never done an interview. With anyone. Ever.

I'm not a huge fan of public speaking. Sure, I can do it if it's something that I want to talk about (ie. passionate about) but I'm butterflies-in-the-gut-that-quickly-turn-into-razor-blades sort of person. But the cool thing is that this isn't public speaking.

This? This I can do with no concerns at all. There's a lot of Aussies out there that I've heard of somehow through the developer community, so this way I can track some of you down, put some names to faces, and give Frank some cool footage (footage is for film isn't it? recordage maybe...) all in one hit.  And if I don't know you, well, does it matter? You're geeky enough to come to code camp, so therefore you're geeky enough to be interesting (to us fellow geeks). I definitely want to try and catch Greg and Mitch together at some stage, and get the thoughts of the organisers themselves (and they've done a fantastic job so far, that's for sure).

So, for all you Aussies coming along to Code Camp, look out for the guy wandering round with a microphone. Come up and say hi. If you have something you want to say, certainly come and say it. Comments, suggestions, thoughts, whatever, anything could be useful - you too could star in a pod cast! Personally, I hope my voice is edited out, I really hate the way my voice sounds when I hear it back on a recording.

If nothing else, come and record a 'Get Well Soon' message for Frank. He needs something to do in his next 4 weeks at home doesn't he? Maybe we can record a Where's Wally audio book for him, and he can spend the next 4 weeks trying to hear Wally.
