Finding It Hard To Blog
No, it's not that I can't think of anything to write.
I just can't find the freakin time to do it! It's almost midnight at the moment, and rather than drag my tired ass to bed I figured I'd come and make a lame-ass post first.
Well, the last time I posted anything I was at Code Camp Oz last weekend. What a fantastic weekend that was too! It was great cathing up with so many people that I hadn't seen in ages, or hadn't actually met in real life. Every I spoke to seemed to be really happy with how it turned out too.
I did my interviews with a few people while I was there, which was an interesting experience. I've never been an interviewer before (I've avoided pretty much all media that involves personal presence my whole life :) but I think they came up OK. Frank, do I pass muster? I had a listen to them near the end of last week (after I'd had time to forget about it for a little while) and they seemed alright to me (still pretty wierd listening to my own voice, but I'd got used to it by the end) - looking back on it now I wish I'd asked a few more interesting questions of people, but all in all there was a few good discussions in there. Particularly fun was chatting with Joel Pobar and Dominic Cooney. I wish I'd had the recorder going on Saturday night while Darren Neimke was spouting off about his opinions on VB.net, but I think he'd have preferred to have stayed off the record anyway. I tell you Darren, you're a good bloke, but a little misguided if you think C# is better :)
Once I got back from Code Camp, I thought things would become a little more settled. My team leader was coming back to work after two weeks off, which meant (I thought) I could sit and do some hardcore coding again without being interrupted.
Yeah right.
I still got a lot of coding done, but there's still a lot going on. The biggest part is that there's a slight restructure happening at work. There's an official policy being enforced that there must be no more than 7 levels of staff from the CEO to the lowliest worker. So things are a'shuffling.
With the reshuffle it looks like I'm one of the few special cases where things change - I have to reapply for my job. I don't mind, because it also means I (if I pass the interview :) move from 'Technical Specialist' to 'Senior Technical Specialist', and *crosses fingers* should entail a payrise too. Of course, with much power comes much responsibility - and even though it hasn't gone through yet, I'm already officially unofficially permanent team leader (sort of like in VB how you can have an Overridable NotOverridable method :).
I enjoy it however - some people don't like it, but to me it makes that much more fun and interesting having the pressure behind me that now my decisions are actually important and can impact negatively if I get it wrong.
So there's code to be written, design to be done, and people to order around (the other guys there probably think it's the part I like the most) and a life to try and live meanwhile. Life is fun! But where's the time to blog?
Lunch hours.
I need to start blogging in my lunch hours again.
I swear, on my honour as a lady of the night, I'll do it!
And I might even talk about some code too.
