Has anyone played with XP x64?
Last year I built a couple of computers for my sister and her partner. It was an easy job, but along the way I discovered something that was really annoying (understandable given when XP first came out, but annoying nonetheless).
If you have a computer where the primary drive is SATA, you need to give the XP installer the driver so it knows how to use it (the classic 'press F5 to install third party drivers' - or whatever key it is). This is all well and good, but the computer I'd built didn't actually have a floppy drive.
The XP installer demands that the extra drivers are on a floppy. No matter what I did to get it to read from a memory stick or a CD, it just plain wouldn't. In the end I had to take the floppy drive out of another computer, plug it in this one, do the install, then take it out again.
So here's my question: Does the x64 version of XP support SATA out of the box? And if not, does it still demand a floppy drive as it's only source of drivers?
If anyone knows, please leave a comment. I'm really hoping that it doesn't, but it wouldn't surprise me if they didn't bother to upgrade the installer for the x64 release.
