Photo Sharing
For a fair while (especially since my latest was born 2 months ago) I've been (slowly) looking around for a decent place to put all the photos we take. The gallery feature in Community Server (like we have here at codebetter) is fine enough, but we don't have unlimited file space, and the gallery is really for putting special pictures, not the whole damn lot.
After reading a review by Tim Sneath, I figured I'd check out where he recommended: smugmug. It didn't take me long. I'm sold :)
So far, I only have one gripe. They've got a few different ways of uploading images - the most basic being a simple HTML upload form. This is fine, but I want to do many at once - and they've got that covered too, but their programs are written in Java. Yick. Generally I try not to install the java runtimes onto my computers, but I've got no choice now - but still, it's better than creating a Yahoo id to log into Flickr (Yahoo are one of the companies I detest and won't create accounts with).
The other cool part is the referrer program - each member gets a discount coupon code, and if someone signs up with their code, then they get a $5 discount, and I get a $10 credit. w00t! So if you like it and want to join, feel free to use my coupon code - I've also left a link on the side bar of my blog, if you want to come back and use it later :) At the moment I have a standard account - but if enough people use my code, I figure I can upgrade for free :)
I've started uploading all our photos. I think we're going to be low on bandwidth for a while! And after that comes the tagging and sorting and arranging...maybe the mrs will do it for me. We shall see...but man I hate filing!
