Getting A Bit Antsy
Since the start of this week I've been logging into MSDN subscriber downloads at least once a day. The way I see it, November 7th is fast approaching, and you never know if us subscribers will get early download access - and dammit, I want VS2005 NOW! :)
So yes, I've been checking at least once a day (ok, at least twice :). This afternoon I decided to go check again - it was 4pm our time, which meant it was around midnight over in the States. But the site was misbehaving. I'd start at the main page, sign in to my passport, then select the download area, and be redirected back to the first page.
And this got me wondering.
After a little while, the start page stopped allowing logins, and just has a message saying:
NOTICE:
MSDN Subscriber Downloads is currently undergoing maintenance. We apologize for any inconvenience.
Undergoing maintenance are we? They've only recently given the site a new look, so what sort of maintenance does it need? I can only think of one that's interesting - bring in the new types of subscriptions that are coming out (Premium, etc).
And this got me wondering more.
And now the main subscriber page has changed a little. For the last few days (that I've noticed) they have a section listing expected upcoming shipments. Even though it's October, it was listing the stuff for December - and it included VS2005, SQL2005, and a fair few other things. Now the site lists stuff for November, and doesn't include either VS or SQL.
So now i'm really wondering.
Is it coming real soon now? Or have they slipped more and won't arrive until December (and they've just finally updated for th econfirmed November shipment list? So far the sites been down for at least 4 hours. I'm probably just fooling myself, but it feels like the night before christmas :)
Update: It's now out. Of course, they waited until I was asleep in my happy Australian night, so I still didn't get the scoop or anything. Still, I'm just glad it's finally here. On MSDN, I see VS2005 Professional and SQL 2005 Developer. I presume that over time the fuller versions will become visible to me. w00t!
