My Night Out at the Launch Party
Tonight was the VS Ready Launch Community Party in Canberra. Twas a good night indeed :)
For the party, they asked people to dress up as a Geek Rocker. Now, I've been watching the trends of the party reports as they've travelled round the country, and I had a feeling that I wouldn't need to try very hard to score myself a prize (thankfully they canned the karaoke after a couple of cities!). What is it about geeks? Do we not like to go wild once in a while? Do we not like to dress up and look different perhaps? I'm telling you guys, the rest of the world is already pointing and laughing at our pocket protectors!
Anyway, knowing I didn't have to try all that much, I tried to think of what to do...in the end my wife came through brilliantly and painted my biker jacket Metallica style.

Not only that, but if you look closely at the picture (follow the link on it to a larger version if you have vision trouble :) you'll see what she did to my hair. Luckily, it wasn't permanent. To top it off, I hung my 9Guy around my neck, hanging from a noose.
So just as I expected....feared maybe...I arrived to discover that I'm the only one that bothered. Such is life :) The important part, however, is that I won the prize. So now my family has increased in size again!
Here's a photo of my adopted children, sitting on the monitor that shows ... my adopted children :) Oh, and a couple of them saying hello to my sleeping other children.

Thanks for the Tablet Guy, Frank! You rock!
Along with this, there was many other freebies there - magazines, t shirts, lots of cool stuff. Oh, and I picked up a copy of VS2005 Professional and SQL2005 Standard from Athena, our wonderful UG leader, for my efforts for dressing up too. A fantastic night indeed :)
It was also nice to catch up with some friends I only get to see once in a while, like at UG meetings (Rory, Eddie, - OK, I've run out of puff for linking - John, Mitch, Darren, Grant, Rocky, i forget who else...), old friends that I don't get to see too often since they live interstate (Frank, Andy, Chuck, umm...others... :) and then there's the ones I finally got to meet in person - especially Mr Mo and Rob Caron. Great to finally meet you guys!
It was just a good night. Tomorrow, the proper launch! Hopefully I'll score at least a free pen - these things are important :)
