What Annoys You About Vista the Most?
I've been running Vista B2 as my primary OS for about 10 days now. I'm still deciding whether to activate it on day 14 or not - little things are getting in my road and pissing me off no end :)
Some are forgivable, and things you'd expect from a beta - others are just plain annoying, and I really hope they change before RTM hits.
Some of the things that have been getting to me are:
- The folder view in windows explorer is half the height of the window. For some reason, the 'Favorite Links' (which aren't any of my favourites) takes up the other half. I can't find any way to hide the favorite links permanently. If I switch to 'Use Classic Folders' then there's no treeview at all! I know Vista is all about the search, but I KNOW WHERE I LEFT MY STUFF! I DON'T NEED TO SEARCH!!! Oh, and I don't leave my stuff in my Documents, my Pictures, or anywhere else in my profile - it's on E drive - my data drive that still has 100 gig free, rather than C drive, where after installing Vista and Office, I only have 4 gig available. Maybe this one should have been a couple or three dotpoints :)
- The network seems flaky. I've got both the Bloglines and GMail notifiers running in my systray. Most of the time, they both think that the computer is offline. A couple of times even IE has though - even though it's really online. Don't know if this is a driver thing or not.
- There's no decent anti-virus yet (I know, this isn't MS's fault). The closest I've found is Avast, but every time I log in, I get told that its systray icon requires admin privs, and asked if I want to allow it.
- The mouse cursor when playing InkBall is really really hard to see if you aren't playing on a Tablet.
As you can see, it really is small stuff. But it's the small stuff that wins at the end of the day. I could go on for ages about all the small things that bug me, but most of them are things that I'll learn to accept in time.
But there's one thing that needs to fixed, and fixed RIGHT NOW.
The thing that pisses me off the absolute most is that they've fixed solitaire.
Fixing it is no big deal. It's quite funky now. They're obviously exploiting the new graphics stuff, multi-stage undo is great, and it even has funky sounds.
But me, I'm a keyboard driven beast. For the last 10 years, if I had nothign else to do, I'd play solitaire - and to start it the quickest (for me) I'd always enter the following keyboard combination: Win+R-s-o-l-enter.
Win+R - that's the windows key and R. It launches the Run dialog.
Then sol. Then press enter.
And blink - there's solitaire. And what happens now?

They've gone and renamed it, the bastards! I really hope this gets fixed before they release the finished product - otherwise, I'm bound to go mad.
