My New Life With Readify: The First Day Is Over
Yesterday was my first 'official' day with Readify.
I'm not sure I've really started yet. There's a couple things I need to look at this week, and I was about to get started when I thought about what was currently installed on my machine. Besides all the usual things, there was an old build of LINQ (which was installed over the top of an even older build), there was Beta 2 of WinFX (which is not the latest, because they rebadged it to B2 of .net 3.0), which itself had been installed over a CTP. And numerous other betas and ctps of things.
So I decided that before I started messing with production code I better reinstall my OS and start clean and fresh. And I have (the almost last thing is going on now - MSDN library for VS2005). I've got it talking to the Readify network (mostly - I still haven't got it talking to the Readify exchange server). I need to upgrade to IE7 sometime too - I've been using it since B1, and IE6 just feels so damn strange now.
I'm also starting to make headway in my 'office'. The computer room at home has always been the junk room, and one of the messiest in the house. To be able to work well I sorta need it a little more organised than that. The desk is about clear of junk now, and if I don't turn around at the desk I can't see the piles of crap that still need to be sorted out. I'll get there slowly :)
It's funny the little apps you use that you don't really think about. Winamp, Winzip, a decent text editor. A lot of the software I run at home is licensed by my workplace. The switch to a new place often causes some legal issues when for my machine as a result - this time I'm getting myself personally legal for once. I've already bought my own copy of Paint Shop Pro (for a special discount :) and yesterday I found Nero7 going cheap. In a couple of weeks I might focus on the little utilities like Winzip and stuff. It's a strange feeling to know that it's all mine for once. :)
Meanwhile, Mitch has has been showing off his daughter in a photo shoot. Yet again I can't help but try and compete. I think it's something to do with fatherly pride - no one can have better looking children than me! *laughs* Not to negate that he's been blessed too, I have to treat it as an excuse to throw up a pic of my kids :)
Note: This was taken before the chicken pox arrived - I think it's going to be a little while before all the blemishes are gone :)
