Upgrade: Coming Soon

I finally found some time over the weekend to start looking at how the upgrade to Community Server 2.1 will go for CrankyGoblin.

So far (on my local machine) I've upgraded a copy of my database and pointed a fresh 2.1 install at it, and it's all looking sweet. But before I can actually run the upgrade, I first need to work out two things:

  1. Which skin do I like? There's new skins available, and the one I'm currently using won't port without some mods. My design skills suck, so I'm not going to invent my own one - I've tried and failed many times. I've got to use one of the existing presupplied ones (I don't like most of them) or upgrade my current one, which will take a bit of time.
  2. All my old mods need to brought in. I've done a few different code mods to my existing CS 2.0 install - some might not need to be applied (bug fixes), some were just changes I wanted that certainly won't be in the new release. So now I've got to go back and patch them all back in.

Hopefully over the next couple of weeks I can get all the work done and get it sorted out.

Sometimes I think I should just go and do what Mitch did, but I love CS too much to give it up :) The hassle is worth it (especially since CrankyGoblin hosts more than just my blog.
