Keepin' It Aussie - Now Keep It Canberran!
Darren recently made himself a Live Gadget that keep track of the AFL football ladder.
This is cool - it's about time some real Aussie content started appearing - of course, I don't think I'm a typical Aussie, because football really doesn't interest me. But anyway...
I was thinking about it through the course of the day, and I realised what a real golden opportunity he missed. You see, there's not that many of us Canberra geeks - as opposed to the amount in Sydney or Melbourne anyway. What would have been really cool was if he made a typically Canberran gadget, not just an Aussie one.
But what makes something typically Canberran? There's a lot of things that Canverra is known for, but I can think of four things off the top of my head that really epitomise Canberra.
So I say Darren needs to make 4 more gadgets. I'd make them myself except except that a) I don't want to; and b) I really don't like this whole Live thing anyway. For some reason I really don't like any of the big brand sites - Live, MSN, Yahoo, it's all crap as far as I'm concerned :) Yes, I use some google products, but that's it (and only search because it's still the best, and gmail because the web inrweface doesn't suck).
What 4 does he need to make?
- A gadget that is just a circle. Then have a car driving around and around and around it endlessly.
- A gadget that works a bit like a photo gallery, but instead of bringing up random photos that you've uploaded to your blog, it shows random photos of politicians. The difference here is that it also includes some functionality from MSPaint, so you can draw moustaches and cigarettes and devil horns on them.
- A gadget that just shows pretty animations of fireworks going off.
- A gadget that helps you bargain hunt for cheap porn and prostitutes.
And that, my friends, is Canberra.
