I Need New Sunglasses
I'm spending the day sitting on the back verandah again while I'm working. I have to say - this is really a nice way to spend the day. It's warm (but not hey yet, although once the afternoon kicks in and the sun moves aroudn to shine on me it might be a different story) and the skies are clear. A strong wind has developed over the course of the morning, but it's not enough to drive me back inside yet.
But there's one thing Iv'e realised that makes working here a little bit less pleasant than it could be. Because I'm outside and the sun is shining, I've got my sunglasses on. This wouldn't be a problem, as they darken the bright bits but they don't darken very much the bits aren't overly bright - but they're polarized.
Polarization on sunglasses can be fun. On tinted windows they can make funky patterms, and on lcd screens (which are polarized themselves) the screen can go entirely dark depending on which way you tip your head - the two sets of polarization can cancel out all light.
And of course, I'm working on a laptop - which has an LCD screen. If I tip my head one way the screen effectively turns off. If I tip it the other way, everything becomes nice and bright and clear. When my head is upright, it gets darkened a little, but not enough to stop me reading the screen.
It's annoying. I need a new pair - can sunglasses stores match polarization direction with laptops?
