Off To Melbourne

I'm about to head off to the airport to take a flight to Melbourne. The afternoon will be spent sitting in Dad's office with my laptop, happily coding away until it's time to follow him home after work. The only pain is going to be the lack of internet connection - unless by some big fluke they've got wireless setup at his work, I doubt I'll be able to get online.

Tomorrow I've got induction with Readify - so I only really needed to make it a daytrip, leaving tomorrow morning. But by a fortunate circumstance, today is Mum's birthday. So I'm heading down today and walking in the door at Mum and Dads place this evening. The cool part is that Mum doesn't know I'm coming. :)

Tomorrow is induction, then it's back home tomorrow evening - I'll probably walk in the door at hime having just missed putting the girls to bed. I'll bet any money that Issy will still be awake though :)

I've already bought Mum and Dad their birthday presents (Dad's is on Friday) but I wish now instead I'd bought them a wireless access point for their home. they can;t make much use of it, but it means that when I visit I'll have net access without using their computer. I can't patch onto their network without a bit of dicking around around otherwise - they run Optus cable, and the modem is a single USB device with no ethernet ports. I'll have to bridge their net connection with theonboard network port that they have maybe...

I asked my sister (who lives in Canberra too) if she wanted me to take anything down with me. She dropped over enough stuff to fill a suitcase last night! Here was me planning on taking a single backpack with a laptop, one change of clothes, and a couple of small presents :) I'm about to turn off the laptop and squeeze it into my backpack now - I might still be able to makle it all fit one bag, but I'm not holding my breath!

Anyway, I'm going dark till tomorrow evening (probably). See you all then :)

It did, but only just :) It was touch and go there for a while, I managed. The seems were stretched to just short of breaking point though!

Actually, it was so full that it wouldn't fit in the overhead compartment on the plane! No worries, I thought, I'll put it under my seat...nope, didn't fit there either :) I started with it under my feet, but the plane was mostly empty, so the steward put it on an empty seat for me and buckled it in :)

Heya Geoff,

If you've got a spare ten minutes or you're just plain bored give me a woohoy and I'll meet you somewhere in the city.  Or you could come to the Victorian.NET user group meeting; it'll be my first:

Next time it is then.  :)

You should just cut your losses and move down here.  Move your family to a nicer city before the kids get too old...  ;D
