Leaving on a Jet Plane...Eventually
When I found out last week that I'd be working in Melbourne for 6 to 8 weeks, the first thing I did was work out my flights. For the first 2 weeks, I'm flying out of Canberra on Sunday evening, returning on Friday evening. Simple enough - yes?
Not when Virgin decide to cancel your flight. I got to the airport last night, loaded down with luggage and family in tow to watch the plane leave. I went to the eCheckin area and typed in my number - and the screen told me my flight was canceled. So I went up to the desk and talked to them and they told me that there was nothing else out until morning. A quick check with Qantas, and all they had was a couple of seats in business class (no way am I paying that :), so there's no choice but to go back home and try again later.
This morning I was up just after 4.30, showered, dressed, went to the airport, and successfully made it onto a plane. It landed at around 7.45, I grabbed my suitcase and ran for the taxi - to discover that traffic is terrible getting to the city at that time of day :)
I ended up getting to where I needed to be at around 9 - only 45 minutes later than I really should have been. Such is life.
What I'm not looking forward to is lugging my suitcase and backpack on the train to my parent's house this evening during peak. I might stand, since there'll be no room to chuck my case under the seat. I can keep myself amused while traveling now, which is cool. An SD card in my new iMate JAMin makes an ok mp3 player.
I really don't like Windows Media player. REALLY don't like. Now I've got a new least-favourite - Media Player on Windows Mobile. Man, it's freaking annoying!
