Outlook Had Its Chance

Recently I mentioned that I was giving Outlook 2007 a go as my RSS reader.

The result? It's been less than a full week, and I say HELL NO! Some people might like it, but for me all it does really slow outlook down (I know my wife is having no troubles, but she's subscribed to something like ten feeds, whereas I've got more than two hundred). Really slows it down.

So now I'm trialling two others at once - GreatNews, recommended by Rory, and Newzie, recommended by Rob Caron. We'll see how they go, but sadly I think I'm getting a bit cynical. I don't have high hopes - I'll probably end up back with bloglines :)

I've been using GreatNews for a while and am pretty happy with it. The best thing is the developer is very responsive and readily accepts and implements suggestions. And its Bloglines sync works well (which is key for me). I'm subscribed to about 750+ feeds, many are aggregate feeds, so I get about 1000-2000 posts a day and GreatNews is able to handle that volume with no problems.

It's not perfect, but then again I've yet to find a perfect reader... But for me, for now, this one is as close as I've found.

Having said all that, Newize looks pretty interesting too... I'll be interested too see which one you pick.

Nah, it's not too bad I suppose. But it's not what i'm looking for at the moment.
