A Quick Geeky Plug
I need to give a plug to a shop today. Just like how I like to pick on bad service, I also want to give a shout out to what happened to me this afternoon.
But in classic me style, I need to tell a story first :)
I'm a geek, we all know that. With geekiness comes interests in things like star wars, science, logarithmic scales, etc. My particular points of interest are fairly well known, but there's one that I used to have that I gave up when my kids were born, simply to save the money.
Buffy the Vamire Slayer comics. I'm a big Buffy fan. And Angel. I have collective tendencies too (that is, I can't help but collect sets of things), so when they started making a comic, I had to have it.
Getting into them when they first came out reawakened my teenage love of comics that I'd forgotten about. So I still love a decent comic now and then, but I haven't bought any in ages.
Back when I was buying lots of them, I used to go to Impact Records, a store that has since been closed down. They were a massive music, movie and comic store - simply awesome.
When they were bought out, the guys who ran the comic section open a new store nearby - Impact Comics. I hadnt' been there until the other week, when I saw a sign out the front saying that they had issue #1 of the Gunslinger comic in store. A comic based on a series of awesome books by Stephen King?
I immediately went upstairs and grabbed it!
Mighty good comic it was - and the store was cool too :) There was also a sign saying that a new Buffy comic was coming soon (the old series finished a while ago) - Season 8 (the showed stopped after 7) written by Joss Whedon himself. I was tempted, but I didn't do anything about it.
So this arvo I stopped by again to see if issue #2 of the Gunslinger there, and they did. Cam was serving the counter this time - he was one of the guys that came over from Impact Records. I walked up with the comic in my hot little hands, and what did do? Turned around and pulled a copy of the new Buffy #1 out for me :)
Dude! Mighty impressed you remembered me! And it's good to be back - looks like I'm going to become a semi regular again.
Oh, and yes, in case you were wondering, I did buy the Buffy comic. And it was great :)
